My Newest Addiction

Oh no... something else to throw money away on. Actually I blame my parents. About 2 years ago my son turned 6 so my parents bought him a Lego building set. We had a lot of fun building it together, and he loved it. More Lego sets followed for subsequent birthdays and Christmas presents. Some of them were really cool - so cool in fact that instead of helping, Dad (me) would take over and start building myself... at least until the kid got mad and reminded me I was only supposed to be HELPING. This year he recieved a total of FIVE Lego building sets. I decided to let him build them all him - after all he's 8 now and doesn't really need my help any way. It would be fun just to watch him... NOT. I couldn't believe how much I wanted to jump in and "help." I fought the urge and it wasn't fun. So last week I bought (for myself) a Lego Creator Hillside House. So cool!!! It came yesterday and my son called to ask me "who's the Lego set for?" "It's mine" I said, somewhat selfishly. "Don't open it until I get home." He assured me he wouldn't but I think you already know how that worked out... when I got home, the box was open, kit kit was half built, and the remaining pieces were scattered in little piles all over the floor of our home office. I was pissed, BIG TIME - over a freaking toy. I'll even admit to losing my temper for a few minutes. I had been planning on waiting for the weekend when we could leisurely build it together while mom was at work... but Nooooooooo. It was out of the bag (box) now, so we had to finish it before my wife got home from work. Going as fast as I could, it took about an hour and a half to put it together. It's really nice, but I didn't get to take my time and enjoy the process. We had a long talk about the importance of listening to Dad when I tell him NOT to do something, especially when the thing he's not supposed to do is open MY toys until I'm around to "help." Then, since I still want a kit that I can take my time with and enjoy, I went on line and ordered a Lone Ranger Constitution Train Chase set. Am I addicted? Nah... but if I am, it's my parents' fault for buying my son that first Lego building set...
